For processing and analysis of tomographic data, mostly by means of the IMOD software package, the facility employs a fleet of Linux-based PC graphics workstations. Our server and eight workstations are factory-configured, but some are custom-built. All feature Intel or Athlon processors, 1.5-8 GB of RAM, high-performance Nvidia graphics cards and large high-resolution monitors. Between our central server and the satellite workstations, our storage capacity is several terabytes.

In addition, we have several Macintosh G4 computers and numerous windows-based systems, which are used primarily for image-postprocessing but also run all of the IMOD tools. All are equipped with the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Apple QuickTime, Microsoft PowerPoint and other graphics software. CD and DVD recorders are available for high-capacity removeable storage, high-resolution scanners for digitizing negatives and printed media and color printers for publication-quality hardcopy output. All of our computers are maintained on a gigabit local-area network.
